Once again, the pupils were nominated by their class teacher and each chosen pupil was awarded a certificate and given an eggs-cellent treat. The teachers also chose one pupil from their class who has shown outstanding kindness throughout this term. We are incredibly proud of all our Delta children for their achievements.

They visited ‘Our story with Sir David Attenborough’, where the children immersed themselves in a 360 degree cinematic experience. 

The walls and floor burst into life, where the children witnessed the birth of life on our planet and how it has evolved over billions of years. 

Sir David Attenborough’s words reflect his lifetime exploring our planet and sharing its wonders of the world. His personal message of hope makes you feel lifted and empowered to look after our planet.

The children participated in various workshops where they were able to find out how our household recyclable materials are collected, sorted and distributed so that they can be recycled again.

Once again, we took part in a few activities and stories focusing on kindness from 52 Lives School of Kindness alongside other activities too:

  • Children and staff dressing up in their book character costumes 
  • Potato book character competition
  • Whole school assembly - guess the book quiz!
  • Peer reading - different classes reading and sharing a book
  • Where’s Wally scavenger hunt
  • Reading Fiesta where parents were invited to read
  • Write a story based on ‘Ten-word Tiny Tales of Love’ by Joseph Coelho
  • Listening to books which are linked to kindness
  • Reception to Year 3 - ‘Kindness for Koalas’ where the children invented their own character and how they will teach the value kindness 
  • Year 4 to 6 - Kindness Boomerang’ where the children created their own kindness boomerang to spread kindness with each person they met
  • BBC Teach Live World Book Day lesson

It was pure joy getting lost in all things related to reading and books!

This was a wonderful opportunity for the pupils to practice their oracy skills and critical thinking with a focus on sustainability. Each motion linked to the environment, social, or economic sustainability and encouraged the pupils to consider fairness, future generations and make responsible choices.

This year’s theme was ‘This is My Place’, which is based around belonging and how we can feel a sense of belonging and help others feel like they belong. We also had a whole school refocus on our value of Kindness, ensuring children continue to shine and show ‘Kindness is our Superpower’ by displaying kindness all around the school and helping the children recognise the spaces, both physical and emotional, where they feel safe, valued and able to be themselves.

The children had an assembly which helped them understand that AI is a type of computer which has been designed to try and do some of the things a human brain can do. The children were also reminded of how to stay safe when using AI. Again, the children knew about talking to trusted adults no matter how small the issue is when online. The afternoon was spent carrying out various activities and role-play scenarios linked to this year’s theme.

Children used and built on their knowledge about rocks, exploring where they come from and what we use them for. They explored the different types of rocks using 3D glasses and pictures and where challenged to identify them. Pupils then engaged in a live question and answer session with a professional in the field of geology and asked some very thoughtful and insightful questions about some fossils!

The children acted out the Roman Invasion of Britain and how they battled against the Celts. Once the Romans returned to Italy, there was a volcanic eruption at Mount Etna! The Scientist explained how and why volcanoes erupt. Well done Year 3, who were confident in showcasing and consolidating their learning in History.

All the children had an amazing experience and came back to school with happy smiles.

We even had members of the public commenting on how well behaved and sensible the children were during their visit. Well done Reception, we are incredibly proud of you all.

This was a wonderful opportunity where the children further developed their knowledge, skills and understanding of their Science topic 'Earth and Space.'

The children discussed the planets within the Solar System and were able to speak to an Astronomer, who discussed how they find out information about the Solar System and the future missions that have been planned.

The pupils were awarded a 100% attendance certificate and parents were also notified via email. The pupils also enjoyed a celebratory attendance breakfast. It really showed that even at a young age, the children had such confidence to perform, act, narrate and sing! Cook needed to follow a Christmas recipe, she added Father Christmas, some presents, some festive robins, fluttering snowflakes, sparkling stars and three kind women who gave the gifts of Responsible, Respectful and Resilient to the Cook, who mixed it all in the Christmas bowl. However, there was one missing ingredient - a Christmas tree! Thank you to all our parents/carers and extended family members who came to watch the performance.

The children enjoyed a live show and demonstration of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, looking at why they happen, what damage they can cause and how scientists try to help people avoid the dangers they pose. The educational visit allowed the children to consolidate their Geography unit for this half-term. The children thoroughly enjoyed the trip and were very engaged throughout their visit.

The children were able to meet Robert Swann OBE, who was the first person in history to walk both the North and South Poles. Jenny Cooke, the co-founder of the 2041 Schools charity. Robert shared stories from the ice, the importance of protecting our planet’s frozen continent, and inspired the children to become champions of Antarctica! This was a wonderful experience for all the children.

In total, 4,107 schools across England took part and Delta were in the top 300 with a rating of 270! This is a huge achievement, and we are very proud of all of the children for taking part in England Rocks!

The children bought a £1.00 donation to school alongside wearing a Pudsey accessory alongside their school uniform!

The whole school also took part in 'Activate with Joe Wicks' to help motivate the children to get moving and boost their moods. All of the children had fun with fast feet, star jumps and twisters that were all coordinated by the Bodycoach - Joe Wicks!

Today, it is Odd Socks Day and the children have come into school wearing their most colourful, loud and utterly amazing odd socks along with their normal school uniform. This to promote kindness, acceptance and what makes them unique.

Our hall was transformed into a polling station. The children each had a polling card and completed their ballot paper to vote for their class MP. Finally, they placed their ballot paper in the ballot box.

Our Year 6 students had to complete an application form earlier this week and went to each class to read their manifestos. The students explained why they should be the next Year 6 Head student. Our Head of School interviewed each student to find out why they should represent the school. Votes have been counted, and we are looking forward to revealing the election results tomorrow!

The class had to work hard to work together to think of questions from the evidence and find out which book they will be focusing on for the next few weeks. It was like a 'who done it?' moment! The children learnt how to check if their bike is in roadworthy condition, bike and handling skills in the playground and if they were deemed to be confident, they learnt how to safely ride a bike on the local roads. Each child has now also been awarded a certicate for completing the course.

The children were also informed about how the North Enfield Foodbank recieves donations to help families who are not as fortunate with food parcels.

Delta will be collecting items between Monday 21st - Friday 24th October, every morning at the school gate.

Delta children have come into school wearing yellow, to show their support to young people that they're not alone with their mental health. The children had a whole school assembly to raise awareness, followed by various activities they have completed in class. Thank you to everyone who bought a donation to help raise money for the charity Youngminds UK.

The assembly helped the children to understand how to recognise and know the signs of abuse. The children were also given the strong key message that abuse is never the child's fault and that they have a right to be safe. Finally, where to get help and organisations that are available.

We have achieved the Silver School Games Mark for our commitment and engagement with school games last academic year. We will continue to do so this academic year too! The School Games Silver certificate will be displayed in our school office and the Silver Kitemark will now feature on our letterhead paper.

All the children showed great teamwork and patience, but most importantly, they learnt many culinary skills in the food and technology room.
